I thought it appropriate to speak about this topic today for the simple fact that I saw it emblazoned across the front of my good friends training top. And I thought ‘how true are those words!’
It made me recall this great quote by Roald Dahl:
“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
So I wonder about our magic. I wonder about our ability to find it on a daily basis. I believe in its simplest form, it is to be found in our interactions with others.
Roald Dahl has said that ‘we are the music makers, and we are the dreamer of dreams’. So on this basis alone, it simply makes perfect sense to surround yourself with good and interesting people that can help you dream some magical moments.
Good people provide you with that magic, that buzz, that electricity that gives you the energy to strive for greatness. They bring out the best in you. Being surrounded by good people, by having that willingness to search them out, by having a preparedness to give rather than to receive, you provide yourself with the best chance of unlocking magic in the most ‘unlikely places’.
So if you find someone awesome, someone that puts the glitter in your eyes, then take active steps to shackle them to your person. Don’t let them out of your sight for long. Keep the communication channels with them open. The spark they provide is the very spark that puts a smile on your face. It makes each step seem a little lighter than the other.
Dahl was not wrong when he said ‘A little magic can take you along way’. So broaden your search and you will find it in the most unlikely place. It could be a step away, next door or interstate!
